After a bike crash in the Snowy Range Mountains, I don’t head out without it!

I learned this one the hard way.
I was riding my bike in the Snowy Range Mountains and we stayed out later than planned. I wasn’t dressed for a long ride, didn’t have my biking gear with me, and definitely wasn’t prepared to be out after dark. I had on jeans because I thought it was just going to be a quick ride.
It wasn’t.
I ended up crashing in the dark, breaking my wrist (which needed surgery) and tearing my bicep tendon. It was one of those experiences that sticks with you and makes you rethink the little things you toss in your pack.
Now I keep this rechargeable headlamp with my gear all the time. I leave it charged, tucked in with my outdoor stuff, and it’s easy to grab and throw in my pack whether I’m biking, camping, or just heading out for a hike that might take longer than expected.
What I like about it is that it’s lightweight, rechargeable, and bright enough to actually be useful when you need it. It also has a motion sensor, which is handy when your hands are full or cold, and it doesn’t take up much room.
I’m not saying a headlamp would have magically prevented my accident, but I do know that being able to actually see the trail in front of me would have given me a much better shot.
If you’re like me and still learning as you go when it comes to biking, camping, and outdoor gear, this is one of those simple things that’s worth keeping packed and ready.
